Joseph’s coat of many colours represents not only the blessing, favor and prosperity of receiving the birthright and being the heir of the Father, but also represented the hardship and persecution that Joseph would go through as a type of Christ. But while the birthright is given to Joseph after Reuben is disqualified, the genealogy of Christ is given to Judah and there is a split or division within the birthright itself.
